A contribution of R30, 000 received from Proud Partners will assist St Joseph’s Home for Chronically Ill Children (SJH) in integrating the rehabilitation pilot project into its holistic care programme.

The funding will be used towards the shortfall of one bed in the 25-bed Sunflower Ward which has been created to meet the very special needs of pediatric rehabilitation patients admitted at St Joseph’s. The contribution will cover the care plan of the child which includes professional staff support: 24 hours general and specialized nursing care and a rehabilitation programme.

The three-year rehab pilot project started in 2012 and ended in September 2016. This project then confirmed the dire and increased need for intense rehabilitation care for children between 0 and 18 years who come from disadvantaged homes.  Patients are referred to St Joseph’s from acute state hospitals to continue their healing before going home.  This also includes equipping child’s the family with the necessary knowledge regarding the child’s condition, and providing free on-site accommodation, and home visits.
