Special Mass 2018

The annual Thanksgiving Mass was held yesterday (20 September) to celebrate blessings received during the year and to thank donors, funders and supporters for supporting SJH and it children.

The Mass is held annually to celebrate the birthday of SJH which was founded in 1935 by the Pallottine Sisters.

Conducted by Archbishop Stephan Brislin. More than 100 guests attended. For the first time, a small music group by St Joseph’s patients contributed two items- trained and conducted by music experts, Josey and Igshaan. A moving rendition of Mendelssohn’s Elijah was performed by Daniel Moss.

St Joseph’s is a 180 bed free intermediate facility for children from poor communities who need intermediate care (nursing, rehabilitation and social support) between hospital and home.

A very special 60 th birthday - Stanley Adams

One of  St Joseph’s Home for Chronically Ill Children (SJH) employees, Stanley Adams, celebrated a very special 60 th birthday today. Apart from his birthday celebrations, he was also honoured by Scouts South Africa, with two awards, one regional and one national for his life- long dedication and special service to the Scouts. Originally a patient at St Joseph’s, Stanley was employed by the Home when he turned 18 and now has more than fifty years’ service.  Facing huge health and physical challenges since the age of  1 year 6 months, Stanley never gave up. Today he is regarded as “a pearl employee” at SJH and “does the work of two people”, says Thea Patterson, director at St Joseph’s.  He is also a  role model to all SJH patients who suffer from life limiting or life threatening  conditions, and/or disability.

Thank you! St Joseph’s Nappy campaign has started with a bang!

Thank you!

St Joseph’s Nappy campaign has started with a bang! Rotary Claremont collected a large number of disposable nappies for the children.

(Picture Above: Here we have our Rehab Care Workers (RCW) and Berenice from the Resource Section counting and sorting the different sizes)

Pictured below: here, are some of the patients who will be benefiting from the generous donation.

The official nappy campaign will kick off on July 1. It will form part of a special campaign which St Joseph’s will run over 100 days.

It will honour Madiba’ s 100 years which SJH will translate into 100 days of giving.

Valentine's Day Concert

Our staff being entertained on Valentine’s Day, with a few musical items by some our children. Just shows that one shouldn’t be deterred by one’s physical and/or cognitive limitations. With love and compassion, anything is possible!!

Donors Dieter and Bettina Wulkow Visit

We welcomed Dieter and Bettina Wulkow. Their Foundation, based in Germany, donated brand new computers to the Playroom. Older patients are able to utilise the five PC’s while the pre-school kids learn the basics “playing” on the kiddies’  laptops. Dieter and Bettina spent time with kids in the Playroom and also visited the wards.  Thank you for all your support!

Despite water restrictions, the kids enjoy a moment outside with rehab staff.

Grazia Barletta launches Book - proceeds to SJH

Global Volunteers Event - Thank you Kate Chamberlain

St Joseph’s children would like to thank one of our youngest volunteers, Kate Chamberlain for an innovative fundraising project. She designed and sold specially made T-shirts and some other goodies to raise money for SJH. More than R3,200 was banked. Thank you to the school Micklefield School and Headmistress Jeannette Welgemoed for supporting Kate in her efforts. So, let us challenge all volunteers to top this.
